THE GRINGO GROUP

When President and Hermana Gomez arrived in Honduras 80% of their missionaries were Gringos...from the States. Now that they are leaving 80% of their missionaries are Latino...basically from Central America. That shows the rise in the number of missionaries that are serving from Central America. It has been a blessing to the people here.

The Gomez's decided that they needed to learn English to be able to communicate with their missionaries. They have done a fantastic job....we are amazed. They have been wonderful to us to help us bridge the gap between English and Spanish...and so tolerant of our mistakes. One of the things that they decided to do was to have dinner once a month with the English speaking people that they knew. When this first started it included President and Sister Farrell (the other President) as well as some other members from the States that were in Honduras.

When we arrived, we were added to the group. We meet usually once a month...but now most of the people speak Spanish....so it is now the Gringo Spanish group. We have us, the Gomez family, the Chaverris (President of the Tegucigalpa mission), the Whitakers (he works at the US embassy here, the Pacs (darling young couple who live here. He works for an agricultural college...they have 4 girls and are expecting a baby in August) and the Adams' (the other senior couple from Tegu mission). We usually have a meal and then just visit.

This last weekend we met at the Chaverri home...a barbeque complete with a torrential rainstorm. It was so fun...and we had such a good visit with these people. Here is a photo that we took of the group:
