Yesterday our apartment owner invited us to the dedication ceremony for our new apartment building. What an honor and privlege it was to attend this event. Her entire family was there, as well as many extended family. We were able to meet all of them and to visit with them for a little while before the ceremony. (In our broken Spanish). It is amazing that her children and nieces and nephews all speak fluent English. It is quite prestigious to be able to go to bilingual schools here or to have exchange experiences in the United States.
They invited the local priest from their church (Catholic) as well as another clergyman. They said a prayer over the building blessing the structure, the grounds, and the occupants of the apartments. We were really touched. The other clergy looked at our nametags a little suspiciously at first, but then realized that we were friends and not enemies. We thanked them for their prayers and talks after the service.
In front of our newly dedicated apartmentAfter all of her family left, Wayne was able to tell her how touched we were to be invited. He told her that we also pray over and dedicate our homes. She understood that we were pleased and not offended. We are so pleased to be able to associate with such good people of all faiths here.
