THE JOURNEY BEGINS

We have looked forward to driving from Guatelama City back to Tegucigalpa. We have had all the security talks and knew how dangerous it could be. But that is what our faith and a good travel prayer is for, right?

We started out about 10am on Wednesday morning with the goal to reach Copan and the ruins there. We had great directions and an escort from the Tilleys who made sure that we got out of the city without a hitch. About 1 1/2 hours down the road was a great ice cream shop where we were told to stop and use the bathroom. The ice cream was great. The car was doing well....and we were having a great time.

A little ways down the road we passed two missionaries walking along. We had to turn around and visit with them. We were so pleased to meet Elders England and Vasquez from Prescott, AZ and Guatemala. We had some peanut butter bars that Hermana Taylor had given us. We gave them to the Elders and visited with them for about 10 minutes. They were healthy, happy and just walking home for a few minutes.

Where we stayed in Copan

We had no trouble at the border between Guatemala and Honduras. We just paid our fees to leave Guatemala and our fees to enter Honduras. The ruins are about 6 miles from the border and we got there pretty early. Our hotel was great. It is operated by a man from Holland who lives there with his Honduran wife. The rooms were clean, had air conditioning, hot water and they even had a restaurant on site. We will be going back there. The girl at the reception was asking Wayne about our Church, so he was able to give her some phamplets. We felt like real missionaries!!!
